Big Beyond Zanzibar Project

Working with Big Beyond in Zanzibar gives you the opportunity to apply your skills in a rural village and build relationships with Zanzibari people, understand life on the island and learn Kiswahili. You’ll also help us to contribute towards research on the impact of eco-tourism on the island, helping to improve local access to job opportunities and training tourism providers on better eco-friendly customer experience.

Living beside the beach in our cozy volunteer house you’ll soon find yourself in your home away from home. Our volunteer house is in the middle of the small village of Jambiani where we have a great relationship with the community. Zanzibar is the perfect location to immerse yourself in a small community and use your skills and experience helping us to make positive sustainable changes for the local people.

Marine Conservation Project

Marine Tourism and fishing are key elements that underpin Zanzibar’s economy and predominant food source. The Zanzibar marine project works with the local community to champion and pioneer conservation work relating to the southern island’s marine biodiversity, predominantly Kizimkazi dolphin population. You will work alongside our staff and other volunteers from all over the world on research activities, community empowerment initiatives and conservation education programmes.
