Co-Founder and Director

Greg Bows has worked in responsible tourism for over a decade. Originally from the UK, he fell in love with Africa during a family holiday and never left. Greg worked as a guide on overland trips, a wildlife research assistant, and a bush ranger before co-founding African Impact in 2003. Now Africa's leading volunteer travel company, African Impact runs over a hundred community and conservation volunteer projects across the continent, and has hosted over 20,000 volunteers to date. The company has won numerous prestigious awards and its work has been covered extensively in international media.

Besides having been African Impact's Managing Director during the past years, Greg has also contributed to the development of youth travel as a whole by being an elected member of the WYSE Work Abroad Board, and by hosting workshops and lectures on establishing best practices in the industry.

But Greg's tourism experience extends beyond youth travel; he is the co-founder and director of Africa & You, a boutique safari company that offers tailor-made exclusive African holidays. He has also been involved in running African game lodges, which included Encounter Mara, a luxury tented camp in the Masai Mara that has won two World Travel Awards.

Over the past decade, Greg has seen first-hand how travel has the potential to not only provide amazing experiences, but to also be a force of good. This was recognised in 2015 by the International Society for Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) when Greg won the prestigious Young Leader in Tourism Award.

Bigger Picture Manager Ethiopia

Lizzie joined the Big Beyond team in the UK right from the day we launched, and a two week visit to Uganda in 2012 led to six, and she fell in love with the place. She made a quick decision to leave speedy internet behind to embrace rural Big Beyond every day and so since she's been based in Africa.

Lizzie was our Head of Communications for a time before moving to Ethiopia to head up our projects there alongside the Hamar tribe. She will be on hand to assist with day to day living in rural Ethiopia, as well as designing schedules and progressing our projects on the ground there.

Development Manager (Uganda)

Amos was born and brought up in the fertile corner of Uganda where Big Beyond is based. His knowledge of local culture, customs, language and history is invaluable to us and his position in the community helps to maintain a bridge between our volunteers and those we aim to help.

Amos and our other Project Coordinators are absolutely key to our mission. They are all passionate about seeing their communities thrive and a more optimistic future for Bwindi’s conservation.
